Healthy Smiles NYC is Gramercy Kids Smiles’ community initiative to teach children and families about oral health, prevention, and healthy habits from an early age.
Dr. Fatina Shtivelman, a board-certified pediatric dentist, brings the lesson right to your classroom. In 15–20 minutes, kids ages 2–6 practice brushing and flossing with a fun stuffy, listen to a story from her book, and each child goes home with a goody bag that includes their own toothbrush and timer.

Kids take turns brushing our stuffy’s teeth and learn to clean the fronts, backs, and tops. The timer in their goody bag helps them brush for a full two minutes at home.
Kids find out why flossing matters: it cleans between teeth, where a toothbrush can’t reach. Then they practice on the stuffy.
With a coloring or sticker worksheet, kids learn which foods help keep teeth strong and which sugary snacks are best saved for a treat.

Inspired by her son, Dr. Fatina wrote “A Book About Teeth” to help children learn about brushing, flossing, and caring for their teeth. She reads from it at every Healthy Smiles NYC visit.

Keep the lessons going at home. Our free printable worksheets help kids practice good brushing, flossing, and eating habits, and our Parent Education page answers common questions about your child’s teeth.
